HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MOM! **Hair Care Instructions For My Mom**

My mom & I during my traditional wedding (Sept 2009)
Hello y'all!

I know it has been a while since I last posted something on here. I've been so busy keeping up with my other blog that I've somewhat neglected this one!

Well, today's post is a little dear to me because I actually wrote this for my mom. If you have read the story of the beginning of my hair journey, you would know that her hair had a lot to do with me going natural the first time around.

Trust. Pray. Believe. Receive!

"But without faith, it is impossible to please Him: for he that comes to God must belive that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them who diligently seek Him." - Hebrews 11:6

This was the first picture from my shoot for a post on my other blog. As blurry as it is, I love it, because it spoke volumes to me. And I just thought I should share.

Twist Petals - A "Twist" on Loc Petals

Here's another style I tried while my hair was in a protective style. It's simple and cute, yet interesting!

As I mentioned in my previous post, my hair was in flat twists going up around the sides and back of my head. I used kinky/marley hair for the individual twists in the top section.

Protective Styling - Janelle Monae Inspiried Look

As a naturalista, it's fun to rock your fro, but every once in a while, your hair needs a break from manipulation. That's where protective styles come in handy.

For about a month, I had my hair in a protective style, but I still found ways to jazz up the look.

"The Thing About Change" - NEW HAIR COLOR!!!

"The more you change your mind for the better, the more your life will also change for the better."

I just began reading the book, Battlefield of the Mind (by Joyce Meyer), and the above statement is an excerpt from the introduction. I can't wait to explore more of what the book has in store. But the idea is about winning the battle in your mind. Your thoughts become your actions. So, if you change the way you think, you change the way you act.

HELLO!!! (Updates - Picture Heavy!)

I know it has been a while since I last posted, but I'm back! I've been a bit busy, but I wanted to share some updates about my life. (By the way, I'm almost always posting pictures on Insatgram. So, feel free to follow me @mybeautifuloasis)

So.... I'm 6 months natural!!! I can't believe how fast time flies! I remember my Big Chop like it was yesterday! I also remember obsessing over my hair, wondering if it'll grow... Well, it has! I started with 1/2 inch of hair...and now, It's about 5 - 6 inches. I remember watching several YouTube videos where everyone kept saying "Enjoy your TWA stage" and I kept thinking, "Yea, right! Easy for you to say because you have long hair!" But guess what? I'm actually LOVING my TWA!

Her "Hairstory"

*Adanna @ 10 months*
Before she was 18 months, my daughter didn't really have much hair. From the time she was born, I would just use her Johnson & Johnson Baby Head-to-Toe Wash to wash her hair during bath time, rub baby oil all over her hair, and put it in however many "puffs" I could fit on there. When her hair finally grew long enough to braid, I was so excited! I started off with basic hairstyles, and soon enough, I began experimenting with different ideas.

Aqua-phobia?

Up until a month ago, the actual process of washing my daughter's hair was very stressful. For both of us. Why? She absolutely hates water on her face! Washing her face during bath time is bad enough. Now, picture washing her hair...! And she won't tilt her head back because she's doesn't understand that it helps more than it hurts.

Review - Miss Jessie's Products

*The above picture is only an example of the samples I bought. The Sample Bag I bought had about 10 sample packets in a sandwich size zip lock bag, and was purchased by me at my local beauty supply store for $6.99*

Being newly natural, it's easy to become what naturals call a "product junkie" because there are lots of products you want to try to see if it works best for you. But as a wife and mom on a budget, I make a conscious effort not to buy a bunch of things that will end up barely used and living in my bathroom cabinet.

My Natural Hair Journey - Month 2 - February 2013

***This was written in February 2013, the second month of my natural hair journey.***

*At our church's Red Rose Banquet with my son*

It has been a very busy month! Between birthday parties and banquet planning, I've hardly had time for myself! (*rolls eyes* "Right, Chinelo, like you ever did!" Lol)

Every Journey Begins with a Single Step

***This was written in January 2013, the first month of my natural hair journey.***

*1 week post-Big Chop*

My name is Chinelo. I was born and raised in Nigeria, and I currently live in Pennsylvania, USA. I'm the wife of a wonderful man of God, and the mother of two beautiful babies (ages 2 1/2 and 1). I love kids and I'm a pediatric nurse. I love school and I hope to go back...someday.

My natural hair journey is actually a very long story...
